The importance of Research
The importance of doing research is critical! This week I learned that a commonly known fact, isn't really a fact at all! It was just an assumption, or a guess, or a prediction, a theory even! To me its important to do research that's a little deeper than just googling it and reading the first thing that comes up and this is why! Ive gone my whole life thinking that fifty percent of marriages end in divorce, but that simple just isn't true! Now if you just google it, that's what it will tell you. However it you do a little digging, you'll find out that it's much closer to twenty percent to thirty of marriages end in divorce. For me that's still a high percentage, but a lot less disheartening. How would you feel going in to marriage thinking that it was a fifty fifty percent chance that it wasn't going to work out? That would be pretty disappointing a number of levels. It could even effect your relationship in positive or negative ways.
However as I've continued the search for the right answer on how many marriages end in divorce the more I've found out that its really hard to tell for sure. There is just so much data and so many different ways to determine what the real percentage is. So before you go and believe everything you read online or even in books, take a minute to find out how they did their studies and where, when, and how they got their results. Because it might not always add up. It could just be someones personal opinion that you could be taking for truth or facts. Just like I did for so long, believing that fifty percent of marriages end in divorce just because I read it on line! We as people run our live off the information that we obtain. I doesn't matter what the topic is, it could be religion, politics, science, history, but we manage and live our lives based off of what we know and have learned. We are who we are today because of the knowledge that we have. Could we be better people based off of our research? Could we have better relationships? Could we be more successful? Could we do better in school? Or maybe we could become worse as a person, or have poorer relationships, or be less successful, or do worse in school. The moral of the Story is that we do based off of what we know! So my question is why believe whatever you read if you aren't sure if it's true or not?!
I love this quote by Albert Einstein and I believe what he is saying there is true! You can just blindly believe everything or you will never find out the truth!
Research is more important than you might think! For example marriage is already a scary step in life for me, it's also a very important step. Depending on who you are believing that fifty percent of marriages fail or end in divorce could very well prevent form wanting to make that step in life! Fifty percent is a lot and divorce can be ugly.
Now I'm not saying that you have to research every little thing but I would recommend that you would do a little research on what's really important to you. If you think that family is important than do a little research on what makes a family function or what the importance of family is or how to have an effective family. Don't just believe the surface level information that you are given.
