Family Systems

Every family has their own system, their way of living, being, cohabitating, relying, and communicating with each other. Everyone in a family plays a roll. Mother, Father, Husband, Wife, Bother, Sister, Aunt, Uncle, and so on...you get the idea. Each and every single one of these people have played a roll in your life at some point in time. Maybe not directly to you but maybe they had some sort of effect on your father or mother or maybe even your sister or brother. That is what makes up the family system theory, it is a theory of behavior that shows the family as a complex social system, which members interact to influence each others behavior. Family members relate to each other showing the system as a whole rather than as individuals acting completely on their own.

Here is a diagram of how the family system works

Here is a diagram on how the family system work. Do you see how every one is connected to every one? Thats because how I explained earlier every one has a roll that effects every one in the family unit

Now I grew up in a very large family. I am the youngest of eleven children. I guess you could say that I had a lot of people effecting my actions or in other words influencing how I grew up. In my family system there were plenty of unspoken rules and plenty more of spoken rules that effected me in many ways some more positive than others. One of the unspoken rules what that I wasn't allowed to touch my older bothers things or go in their rooms with out asking or receiving permission. I learned about this unspoken rule the hard way. I was about six years old when my brother Issac told me to go get something out of Ammon's  room, my other old brother. Now when Ammon found other that I had gone into his room he chased me down and took me out back and buried me up to my head and left me there for hour to learn my lesson. Needless to say I learned my lesson and I never wanted to go back into his room again. You might wondering or thinking to yourself how does this relate to what we are talking about right now? In my personal opinion now, I think all my brothers had a very good and positive effect on me. I didn't think it was very positive back in the day when they were doing this kinds of things to me on the daily but I learned a few things and its effected how I act and do things now. Two things I've learn off the top of my head is that one, I learned to be obedient and listen to the rules and be more disciplined and two, over time I learned how to defend myself and sand up of myself. Which helped build my confidence up.

So like we talked about earlier all family members have roles. And theses roles are defined as "recurring patterns of behavior developed through interaction that the family members use to fulfill family functions". Now there are four main roles, the mover, opposer, follower, and the bystander. The mover takes action, and the opposer does not approve of the movers action, and the follower agrees or likes the action of the mover, and the bystander just hangs around and watches. Now I'm my little story above that I shared I was the action taker or the mover. My bother Ammon was the opposer. The follower probably would be my brother Isaac, because he was in favor of the action and all my other siblings that just sat around and watched me be buried alive were the bystanders in this case. Anyways what role do you play in your family?
